Diagnosis

Omorgus batesi  is the only representative of the subgenus. It is very distinctive and can be easily recognised by the smooth and shiny pronotum and elytra without tubercles or ridges. The elytral intercostae is marked with deep round punctures. For a more detailed treatment of the species, see Vaurie (1962) and Scholtz (1990).

Geographic distribution

This species is widely distributed, yet rarely collected. It has been known so far from Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil, to which we add the first record for Bolivia. From Brazil, it has been recorded across the Amazon (AM, PA, RR), Cerrado (TO, MA), Pantanal (MT, MS) and Atlantic Forest (SP, RJ, ES) biomes ( Figure 8View Figure 8).
