Diplacanthopoma brachysoma Günther 1887

Material examined. MOVI 38837 (1, 102 mm SL), E-0510.

Diagnosis. Elongate body with tapering tail; snout blunt with slightly protruding jaws; upper jaw ends behind eye; opercle with both a sharp horizontally and a ventrally directed spine; lateral line indistinct.

Distribution. Tropical western Atlantic, at depths from 460 to 1670 m ( Nielsen et al. 1999).

Remarks. Collected from a single station off Bahia, from 580 to 615 m depth. Previously reported in Brazilian waters off Pernambuco, Espírito Santo, and São Paulo ( Günther 1887; Séret & Andreata 1992; Bernardes et al. 2005).
