Material examined. MOVI 38591-38592 (2, 990– 1010 mm SL), E-0507.

Diagnosis. Maxilla free, not sheathed posteriodorsally; one median basibranchial tooth patch.

Distribution. Circumglobal, except for eastern Pacific, at depths from 800 to 1600 m ( Cohen et al. 1991).

Remarks. First record in Brazilian waters. Collected from a single station off Bahia, from 1012 to 1049 m depth. A rare species, of which just 9 specimens (including the two herein presented) larger than 90 cm are known.
