Diagnosis. See Remarks.
Distribution. Eastern Brazil, collected from a single station off northern Rio de Janeiro, at depths from 617 to 632 m.
Remarks. Two species of Lepophidium have been reported in Brazilian waters, L. brevibarbe (Cuvier 1829) and L. pheromystax Robins 1960 ( Robins 1960, 1986). However, the single 93-mm specimen was too damaged for a specific identification.
