Diagnosis. Opercular spine curved; one median basibranchial tooth patch and some specimens with a pair of small tooth patches, some specimens with just one of the paired tooth patches and some without any trace of paired tooth patches (in all earlier literature the lack of paired tooth patches is considered a diagnostic character).

Distribution. Western Atlantic ( Nielsen et al. 1999), at depth from 1334 to 2342 m.

Remarks. First record in Brazilian waters. Collected off Bahia, Espírito Santo, and Rio de Janeiro, from 1334 to 2271 m depth.
