Material examined. 29 specimens, 74–215 mm SL: MOVI 38766-38788 View Materials (23, 74– 180 mm), E-0520; MOVI 38791-38794 View Materials (4, 154– 176 mm), E-0509; MOVI 38814 View Materials (1, 180 mm), E-0496; MOVI 38823 View Materials (1, 215 mm), AG1-6 .

Diagnosis. Head depth less than 60% of head length; spines on top and sides of head poorly developed; frontal spine above eye present; 28–36 lateral line scales to level of anus.

Distribution. Western Atlantic and Gulf of Panama, at depths from 1180 to 3500 m ( Nielsen et al. 1999).

Remarks. First record in Brazilian waters. Collected off Bahia and Rio de Janeiro, from 1635 to 2271 m depth.
