Type species. Sirembo messieri Günther 1878 , by monotypy.

Diagnosis. Bythitid with scales present on body and head; eye diameter less than snout length; palatine teeth present; sharp spine on opercle, none on preopercle; pectoral peduncle as long as broad; pectoral fin-rays 22–32; male intromittent organ on a broad, fleshy pad or stalk.
