Osiris rutilans Friese, 1930: 123 View in CoL . Holotype female, Brazil: Bahia (ZMHB). Shanks (1986): 3, 5, 6, 8, 15, 44–45 (in part).

Osirinus rutilans, Roig-Alsina (1989) View in CoL : 17, 18, 20 (in part).

Comments

This species is known only from the female type specimen. We examined one of the two additional specimens that Shanks attributed with reservation to rutilans and it corresponds to Almeida’s santiagoi . The other specimen from Jataí (Goiás, Brazil) probably also belongs to santiagoi . Shanks had already mentioned that those two specimens could represent a new species.

It is not possible to know whether rutilans came from an area covered by rain forest, cerrado or caatinga, since the original label associated with the type gives only Bahia as locality data. This species is very similar to parvicollis (see ‘Comments’ for that species).

Material examined

Brazil, Bahia: Holotype female, ‘ Bahia. Gom. ’, ‘ Rutila N. ’, ‘654’ (plus three additional labels).
