Basionym : Sarcanthus laxus Rchb. View in CoL f., Bot. Zeitung (Berlin) 24: 378, 1866. Type :— MYANMAR. Mon State : Mawlamyine District, Parish 152 (holotype: K; icon. W-R 53530 ) .

Specimens examined:— MANDALAY. Mandalay District: cult. Ross s.n. ( K) . MON. Mawlamyine District: type; same loc., Griffith s.n. ( K). Also reported from Tanintharyi Region by Kress et al. (2003: 88), but we have not seen material from this area.

Distribution:— Endemic.

Notes:— Hooker (1890b: 69) mentioned a line drawing by Griffith at K-LINDL. Parish (1883: 199) gives 153 as his number for this, but Seidenfaden (mss.) found it to be 152. Sheet W-R 53530 has a Parish drawing with both number 56 and 152 and has a drawing date of 26 Aug 1868 (i.e. two years after the protologue).
