Basionym: Microstylis polyodon Hook. f., Fl. Brit. India 5: 688, 1890. Type:— MYANMAR. Mon State: Mawlamyine District , Parish 215 (holotype: K; isotype: W) .

Homotypic synonyms: Malaxis polyodon (Hook.f.) Kuntze, Revis. Gen . Pl. 2: 673, 1891. Malaxis rheedeana J.M.H.Shaw, Orchid Rev. 124 (1314, Suppl.): 37, 2016, nom. nud. et inval.

Specimens examined:— KAYAH. Loikaw District: Tanaka et al. MY4803 ( TNS, photo seen) . MON. Mawlamyine District : type. Also reported from Tanintharyi Region by Kress et al. (2003: 83; as Malaxis polyodont ), but we have not seen material from this area.

Distribution:— Southern Myanmar, Laos and Thailand.

Specimen examined:— CHIN. Mindat District : 1685 m, 8 Jul 2013, Mu Mu Aung et al. 092359 ( MBK) .

Distribution:— Western Myanmar, Thailand and southwestern China.

Note:— Previously regarded as conspecific with the Sumatran Microstylis ovalisepala J.J.Sm.
