Heterotypic synonym:? Aerides dasycarpum Stone ex J.Dix, Proc. Roy. Hort. Soc. London 5: 170, 1865. Type:— ORIGIN UNKNOWN (? Myanmar). Cult. Stone s.n. (not located, possibly not preserved) .

Specimens examined:—? MYANMAR. Types cited. BAGO. Pyay District : Wallich s.n. ( K-LINDL) . MON. Mawlamyine District: Scott s.n. ( K) ; same loc., Parish 48 ( K, K-LINDL) . WITHOUT LOCALITY. Sep 1898, Peche s.n. ( AMES) ; 21 Sep 1927, Swinhoe 127 ( K) . Reported from Tanintharyi Region by Kress et al. (2003: 69), but we have not seen material from this area .

Distribution:— Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina, Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo.

Note:— For the possibly synonymous Aerides dasycarpum , a drawing of the plant might exist in John Day’s scrapbooks for 1865 as it was cultivated by John Stone (who was the gardener for John Day).
