scientific name

Elasmocera Rondani, 1845j: 152
status

188. Elasmocera Rondani, 1845j: 152 , 154.

ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Elasmocera cingulata Rondani, 1845 ; Asilus limbatus Fabricius, 1794 (as “ Dasipogon, Limbatus Fab. ”).

TYPE SPECIES: Elasmocera cingulata Rondani, 1845 , by monotypy .

CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Ancylorhynchus Berthold, 1827 [ teste Lehr (1988: 233) ].

FAMILY: ASILIDAE .

REMARKS: Previous catalogs have listed the type species as Elasmocera cingulata Rondani, 1845 , by monotypy (e.g., Lehr, 1988: 233). This is incorrect as there are two originally included species. The first to subsequently designate a type species was Hull (1962: 216) who designated Elasmocera cingulata Rondani, 1845 . Although Hull mistook the typification as by monotypy, this designation serves as the first valid subsequent designation of a type species from originally included species. Rondani (1856: 159) designated Asilus glaucius Rossi, 1790 , but this was not an originally included species.

[Eleucina] Rondani, 1856: 209.

CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; genus-group name proposed without characters to differentiate it or included species.

FAMILY: UNPLACED DIPTERA .

REMARKS: This name appeared only in the index to Rondani (1856) under the unavailable family-group name “Elucida” and referred to page 200 where neither name is found.
