status

192. Enteromyza Rondani, 1857: 20 .

ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Gastrus ferruginatus Zetterstedt, 1844 .

TYPE SPECIES: Gastrus ferruginatus Zetterstedt, 1844 [= Oestrus pecorum Fabricius, 1794 ], by monotypy.

CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Gasterophilus Leach, 1817 [ teste Evenhuis (1989f: 720) ].

FAMILY: OESTRIDAE .

REMARKS: Previous catalogers (e.g., Chillcott, 1965: 915; Pont, 1980b: 883; Soós & Minář, 1986: 238; Evenhuis, 1989f: 720) have treated Enteromyza Rondani, 1857 as a nomen novum for Gasterophilus Leach. However , the footnote at the bottom of the page in Rondani (1857: 20) states that Enteromyza (as correctly indicated by Coquillett, 1910: 538 and Neave, 1939b: 241) was being substituted (i.e., proposed as a new replacement name) for Gasterophilus and Gastrus in order to not give a false idea of the generic composition of these two genera and to better place Gastrus ferruginatus Zetterstedt. Thus the type fixation for Enteromyza is Gastrus ferruginatus Zetterstedt, 1844 , by monotypy. There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in Rondani (1857): Enteromyza (page 20) and Enteromysa (page 257). Acting as First Reviser, we select Enteromyza as the correct original spelling, which relegates Enteromysa (q. v.) to unavailable name status.

193. Entomybia Rondani, 1879: 4.

CURRENT STATUS: Unjustified emendation of Entomibia Costa, 1846 ; junior synonym of Braula Nitzsch, 1818 . New synonymy.

FAMILY: BRAULIDAE .

REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “i” to “y” in the same work. Entomibia Costa, 1846 is currently treated as a junior synonym of Braula Nitzsch, 1818 [ teste Pitkin (1989: 560) ].
