ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Musca atropos Schrank, 1776 ; Musca florea Linnaeus, 1758 .
TYPE SPECIES: Musca florea Linnaeus, 1758 , by original designation .
CURRENT STATUS: Valid subgenus of Mallota Meigen, 1822 [ teste Peck (1988: 203) ].
FAMILY: SYRPHIDAE .
REMARKS: Verrall in Scudder (1882: 218) listed the spelling Myiatropa and this was cited as an unjustified emendation by Peck (1988. 203), but criteria for making this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in Scudder (1882). Myiatropa Verrall, 1882 is thus an unavailable name, new status.
