CURRENT STATUS: Unjustified emendation of Somomya Bertoloni, 1861 ; junior synonym of Calliphora Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 . New synonymy.

FAMILY: CALLIPHORIDAE .

REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “mya” to “myia” in the same work. Somomya Bertoloni, 1861 (as “ Somomya Rondani ”) is currently treated as a junior synonym of Calliphora Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 [ teste Schumann (1986: 16) ].

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Sphaerophoria Le Peletier & Serville, 1828 .

FAMILY: SYRPHIDAE .

REMARKS: The earliest mention of Sphaerophoria Le Peletier & Serville, 1828 using the spelling “ Spaerophoria ” that we have found in this study is in Zetterstedt (1852: 4514), as an incorrect subsequent spelling. In Rondani (1856) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “ph” to “p” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Rondani (1856) as an incorrect subsequent spelling.

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Sparnopolius Loew, 1855 .

FAMILY: BOMBYLIIDAE .

REMARKS: Criteria for making this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in these works.
