11. Henriettea spruceana Cogniaux (1888: 530) View in CoL .
Type:— Brazil “ Habitat in vicinia Manáos prov. Alto Amazonas ”, December 1850 - March 1851, R. Spruce s.n. (lectotype: G-DC00328212!, designated here; isolectotypes: B† [photograph F17260!], E00505289!, GOET007937 !, GOET007974 !, K000973890!, LD1224570 !, MG19679 !, NY00228621 !, P01818594!, TCD0005312 ; remaining syntypes: Brazil, “Manáos, Brésil”, November 1851, R. Spruce 3360, BR0000005187935!, P01818593!) .
Cogniaux (1888) described H. spruceana based on two collections, Spruce s.n. and Spruce 3360. Duplicates of these collections can be found in BR, G, GOET, K, LD, MG, NY, and P. Although these specimens do not bear the complete locality citation exactly as seen in the protologue, the specimens at G, GOET, K, and P have partial data of the collection locality, for example, “In vicinibus Barra, Prov. Rio Negro, coll. R. Spruce, Dec.-Mart. 1850-51”. Additionally, the labels contain the name of the species written by Cogniaux. The syntype Spruce s.n. (G-DC00328212) was selected as lectotype, because it better represent the species, with abundant complete flowers (including stamens), and better preserved vegetative and reproductive material.
It should be noted that Spruce used the same collection number 3360 to record other different specimens (B† [photograph F17262], BR0000005222131, E00505304, G00328210, GH 00072306, K000006405, K000006406, MG 19681, NY 00228619, P01818653), which were analyzed by Triana (1871) to describe Henriettea granulata , a species morphologically distinct from H. spruceana .
