Hercostomus panamensis Van Duzee, 1931: 185 View in CoL , fig. 24. Type locality: Barro Colorado Island , Panama.

Diagnosis (male). Face as wide as ocellar tubercle at middle ( Fig. 10D View FIGURE 10 ). Antenna reddish yellow, with postpedicel brownish on apical 2/3 ( Fig. 10B, D View FIGURE 10 ); postpedicel slightly longer than wide, slightly pointed at apex. Legs: mostly yellow, except lateral surface of coxa II, It 5 and tarsus II and III from apex of tarsomere 1 onwards brownish ( Fig. 10A, B View FIGURE 10 ). Tarsus I with ventral surface from apical 2/3 of It 1 covered by pile of whitish setae. Tarsus II and III unmodified. Wing gently brownish, M 1 gradually angled towards R 4 +5 ( Fig. 10A View FIGURE 10 ). Hypopygium slightly shorter than abdomen ( Fig. 10A View FIGURE 10 ); cercus yellow, branched, ventral branch short, about 1/5 of length of epandrium, narrowing at apex ( Fig. 10E View FIGURE 10 ).

Remarks. Van Duzee (1931) did not provide any comments on his decision about the generic placement of this species, but it is clearly part of the latipes -group, sharing with the other species the characters listed above in the diagnosis.
