Lorentz 153 (lectotype, GOET 002070 [photo!] designated by Freire & Ariza Espinar (2014); isolectotype, CORD 00004782 [photo!]).

Herbs or suffrutex perennial, 0.4–1.5 m tall, with multiple main stems from the base, branched towards the inflorescence. Stems ascendant, terete, striate, glandular-pubescent, leafy up to the inflorescence, internodes 3–7 cm long. Leaves opposite, pseudopetiolated, pseudopetiole 1–2 cm long; blade ovate or elliptical, rare ovate-rhomboidal, 5–6.5 × 1.2–2 cm, apex acute, base decurrent, margin slight to deeply serrate, 3-nerved or reticulated, both surfaces pubescent to densely pubescent, with biseriate vesicular glandular hairs (subtype β) and cylindrical hairs. Secondary inflorescences dense, disposed in 2–6 pairs of terminal branches, in several corymbiform cymes; capitula grouped in clusters, clusters up to 20 capitula each, sessile or shortly pedunculate, peduncles if present 0.1 mm long, densely pubescent, with biseriate vesicular glandular hairs (subtype β) and cylindrical hairs. Involucres 4.5–8 × 3–4 mm; phyllaries linear, 5, 1-seriate, elliptical-linear or ovate, 4–7.5 × 0.6–1.2 mm, outer 2, apex acute, pubescent, with biseriate vesicular glandular hairs (subtype β, rare α) and cylindrical hairs, inner 3, apex acute, slightly pubescent. Florets 5, isomorphic, with infundibuliform corollas, 5–6.5 mm long, throat 0.6–1.2 mm wide, white or pink, throat plus tube 3–4 mm long, outer surface pubescent, with biseriate vesicular glandular hairs (subtype β) and cylindrical hairs in the lower third, lobes ovate or elliptical, 0.8–1.6 × 0.8–1.2 mm, apex acute, white, usually pubescent with cylindrical hairs. Cypselae prismatic or ellipsoid, 2.8–4.4 × 0.4–7 mm, sparsely pubescent with twin hairs and biseriate vesicular glandular hairs (subtype β). Pappus dimorphic or isomorphic, bristles 1–4 or absent in adelphocarps, 0.6–4 mm long if present, equal or unequal in size, and bristles 1–2 or absent in idiocarp, 0.6–1 mm long if present, equal in size.

Notes: —After the description of the last form (i.e. form longiaristata ) Hieronymus states “Die drei oben gennanten Formen finden sich am erstegenannten Fundort, vom zweiten liegt mir nur ein Exemplar der Forma longiaristata vor. RIOJA: in der Nähe der Mina del Oro in der Sierra de Famatina (Hieron. u. Niederl., 24–25 Jan. 1879, n. 426); in der Nähe von El Pie de la Cuesta oberhalb der Estancia El Vallecito in der Sierra de Famatina (Hieron. u. Niederl., 15–20 Jan. 1879)”. (“The three forms mentioned above are found at the first mentioned site, of the second I only have a specimen of the form longiaristata . RIOJA: around Mina del Oro in Sierra de Famatina (Hieron. & Niederl., 24–25 Jan. 1879, n. 426); around El Pie de la Cuesta above Estancia El Vallecito in Sierra de Famatina (Hieron. u. Niederl., 15–20 Jan. 1879 ”). It should be noted that the date in the protologue does not coincide with the date specified in the specimens label (24–25 Jan. 1879 vs. 23–25.I.1879, respectively). As expressed in Art. 9.2 of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants ( Turland et al. 2018), the date on the protologue is to be corrected.

Although Freire & Ariza Espinar (2014) correctly assigned specimens CORD 00005529 and CORD 00005530 to the form longiaristata (i.e. adelphocarps containing 2–4 bristles 2–4 mm long), the species name remained untypified. Hieronymus divided the whole original material of the species name between the three forms; the original material of these forms is also the original material of the species name. The specimen of f. longiaristata Hieron. is, at the same time, a syntype of Stevia diversipapposa Hieron. and should be designated as its lectotype. Thus, specimen CORD 00005530 becomes the lectotype of two names, species and form.

All the materials designated here as neotypes follow two rules: (1) the pappus found in the specimens we associate with each name is consistent and fits the original description made by Hieronymus, and (2) the localities of the specimens are the closest to the location where the original material was gathered (i.e. Sierra de Famatina , Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). We consider it important to note that all the neotypes herein designated are complete specimens and well-preserved.
