Type specimen. Holotype, gender unknown, CNU-COL-NN2010408, housed in the Key Lab of Insect Evolution & Environmental Changes, Capital Normal University, Beijing, China.

Locality and horizon. Daohugou Village, Middle Jurassic Jiulongshan Formation, Ningcheng County, Inner Mongolia, China.

Etymology. The species name is derived from Latin word “ bimaculatus ”, referring the two maculae on the pronotum.

Diagnosis. Pronotum about 1.58 times as wide as long, the widest part at its base, anterior pronotal margin strongly and widely incurved, posterior margin slightly bisinuate; posterior 1/4 of the disc with two round maculae, which are covered with dense and irregular polygonal cells; elytra with nine distinct longitudinal striae, the striae are parallel to each other, disc with five spots; the distance between procoxae equal with distance between mesocoxae; the first ventrite of abdomen 3.5 times as long as the second one, the apex of last ventrite broadly rounded.

Description. Body 18.7 mm long and 7.4 mm wide, subcylindrical; pronotum narrower than elytra; surface of body with uniform, small, rounded and dense punctures ( Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 − 4 , 5 View FIGURE 5 ).

Head slightly narrower than anterior pronotal margin, frontovertex slightly longitudinally depressed; eyes oval, widest in middle, inner margins diverging dorsally; antennae with two preserved segments, antennomere 1 swollen distally, 2 shorter than 1, much slender ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 − 4 ).

Pronotum about 1.58 times as wide as long, the widest part of pronotum at its base; anterior pronotal margin strongly and widely incurved, posterior margin slightly bisinuate; lateral pronotal margins weakly arched at anterior 3/4, posterior 1/4 incurved, posterior angles acute; integument of pronotum with feeble transverse striae formed by coarse punctates; posterior 1/4 of the disc with two round maculae covered with dense and irregular polygonal cells ( Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 − 4 , 5 View FIGURE 5 ).

Elytra 3.3 times as long as wide, the widest part at the middle; lateral margins weakly arcuate in anterior 2/3, then somewhat narrowed to obtuse apex; epipleura narrow; disc somewhat convex, with transverse rugae and nine distinct longitudinal striae, the striae are parallel to each other; disc with five oblong spots: the smallest one located at the beginning of 2/3 of disc across the second and the sixth striae; the middle two spots connecting at the middle part; the posterior two spots large, one at the start of posterior one third of disc between the fourth striae and outer margin; one close to the apex, between the first and the eighth striae; pygidium round triangular, projecting beyond apex ( Figs. 1, 2 View FIGURES 1 − 4 , 5 View FIGURE 5 ).

Hind wings partly preserved; radial cell reduced.

Ventral surface reticulate, finely punctate; prosternum with short mentonniere; prosternal process slightly converging between coxae, somewhat roundedly truncated apically, narrower than procoxae; procoxae, mesocoxae rounded, distance between procoxae equal with distance between mesocoxae; metepisternum quadrate; paracoxal suture straight; metacoxae transverse, short laterally, posterior margin arcuately emarginated; abdominal ventrites with finely, rather dense punctures, which formed into faint rugae, the first ventrite 3.5 times as long as the second one, ventrites 2−3 subequal in length, 4 longer than the previous one, 5 broadly rounded at apex ( Figs. 1, 3, 4 View FIGURES 1 − 4 , 5 View FIGURE 5 ). Legs: femora robust; tibiae more or less straight; pro-, and mesotrochanters trapeziform ( Figs. 3, 4 View FIGURES 1 − 4 , 5 View FIGURE 5 ). Dimensions. Body length/body width/elytron length, in mm: CNU-COL-NN2010408: 18.7/7.4/12.9.
