Description. Holotype male. Dorsal color. Head, pronotum, connexivum and dorsal abdominal segments shiny reddish brown; antennal segments I to III dark reddish brown, IV yellowish white; hemelytra dull chestnut brown with basal two third with wide quadrate yellowish white mark; claval commissural area pale chestnut orange; hemelytral membrane dark brown. Ventral color. Ground color shiny reddish brown; rostral segments I to IV yellow with chestnut orange reflections; coxae shiny chestnut orange; trochanter dark yellow; femur chestnut orange with apex yellowish white; tibiae yellow with dull brownish orange reflections; tarsi yellowish white. Genital capsule. Figs. 5–6 View FIGURES 1 – 10 . Paramere. Figs. 7–8 View FIGURES 1 – 10 .

Integument. Head, pronotum, and ventral surface shining; remainder of body dull. Pubescence. Dorsal surface sparsely covered with short, suberect, silver to golden setae, except for two elongate upstanding setae near to inner face of each eye; antennal segment I sparsely covered with suberect or reclining medium size silver to golden setae; antennal segments II to IV densely covered with numerous, suberect, heavy, silver to golden setae; rostral segment I almost glabrous, and II to IV sparsely covered with elongate, suberect, silver setae; head ventrally and thorax sparsely covered with short, reclining, silver setae; abdominal sterna densely covered with long, reclining, silver setae. Legs. Male: fore and middle legs with femur, tibiae, and tarsi sparsely covered with elongate, erect to suberect, silver setae; hind leg with femur, tibiae, and tarsi densely covered with elongate, suberect to erect silver setae. Punctuation. Head dorsally impunctate, except for coarse punctures behind eye, and small punctures on frontal region; anterior lobe of pronotal disk smooth, impunctate, except by two rows of transversal punctures running close to the anterior margin, and two lines of longitudinal punctures running at middle third; pronotal calli almost impunctate; posterior lobe of pronotal disk coarsely punctate; humeral angles impunctate; scutellum, clavus and corium sparsely, punctate ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ). Head ventrally rugose, impunctate, except for small punctures at middle third; prosternon coarsely punctate; propleuron almost impunctate; mesosternon impunctate; mesopleuron coarsely punctate; metasternon impunctate; metapleuron scattered punctate, with one transversal line of deep punctures near posterior margin ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ); acetabulum smooth; abdominal sterna smooth.

Measurements. Head length 0.27; width across eyes 0.38; interocular space 0.24; preocular distance 0.17; antennal segment length I, 0.22, II, 0.24, III, 0.18, IV, 0.28; pronotum length 0.34; width across humeral angles 0.62; scutellar length 0.25; width 0.28; total length of claval commissure 0.45; total length of corium 0.76; total body length 1.64.

Female. Structure and color similar to male holotype. Femur, tibiae, and tarsi sparsely covered with elongate, erect to suberect silver setae; connexival segments VIII and IX, and dorsal abdominal segments VIII and IX pale chestnut orange; genital plates shiny chestnut orange with middle third pale yellowish orange.

Measurements. Head length 0.29; width across eyes 0.40; interocular space 0.23; preocular distance 0.20; antennal segment length I, 0.28, II, 0.23, III, 0.20, IV, 0.29; pronotum length 0.32; width across humeral angles 0.64; scutellar length 0.31; width 0.34; total length of claval commissure 0.32; total length of corium 0.82; total body length 1.82.

Type. Holotype male. MEXICO: Oaxaca, 13.2 km SW Valle Nacional, 20–1360 m, 17°65’934’’N–96°33’426’’W, 11-VIII-2009, M. G. Branstetter ( UNAM).

Paratypes. MEXICO: 9 males, 10 females, Oaxaca, 13.2 km SW Valle Nacional, 20–1360 m, 17°65’934’’ N- 96°33’ 426’’W, 11-VIII-2009, M. G. Branstetter ( UNAM). MEXICO: 5 males, 5 females, Oaxaca, 10.8 km SW Valle Nacional, 66–1120 m, 17°68’102’’N–96°33’026’’W, 13-VIII-2009, L. Saenz and M. G. Branstetter ( UNAM).

Variation. The area belong to the claval surface entirely yellowish white.

Diagnosis. Branstettocoris pinguis sp. nov. is easily distinguished by the coleopteroid hemelytra, the apical corial margin straight or weakly convex, and the ground color of dorsal surface, mostly shiny reddish brown with chestnut orange reflections, except antennal segment IV and basal two thirds of hemelytra yellowish white.

Biology. Collected from sifted leaf litter.

Distribution. Known only from the type locality.

Etymology. From the Latin “ pinguis ”(fat, thick), referring to the slightly swollen shape of the bug.
