Chiloscyllium sp.

Plate 5, Figs 46a, b

Material. One isolated tooth. NHMW 2025/0177/0026 (1).

Description. The anterolateral tooth ( Pl. 5, figs 46a, b) has a significantly lower crown and is less labiolingually developed than the ones in Chiloscyllium serralheiroi sp. nov. It bears an additional pair of cusplets of which the distal one is absent due to damage. The labial surface is less convex than the anterior tooth of C. serralheiroi sp. nov. ( Pl. 5, figs 43a–d). The cusp is less developed and lower. The root is not preserved.

Discussion. Because of the presence of a well-developed distal cusplet and very likely a mesial cusplet as well, it is not expected that this tooth fits in the dentition of Chiloscyllium serralheiroi sp. nov. The fact that the dentition of extant C. plagiosum (Bennett, 1930) has teeth that gradually lose their cusplets the closer they are positioned to the commissure suggests that this tooth belongs to a yet unknown species of Chiloscyllium . Therefore, this tooth probably represents an unknown species of Chiloscyllium .
