Distribution. East Pacific: Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama (Coiba Is., Bahía Honda in Veraguas, Azuero Peninsula, Isla Venao, Taboga Is., Melones I., vicinity of Ciudad de Panamá, including Amador Causeway, Las Perlas Is.), Colombia, Ecuador and Peru ( Haig 1960, 1962; Gore 1982; Moscoso 2012; present study).

Ecology. Intertidal and subtidal, known depth range: 0–76 m; rocky shores and hard or mixed bottoms with coralline algae and coral rubble; among rocks, rubble, polychaete cavities, algae, among hydroids, gorgonians, scleractinian corals (dead and living Pocillopora ), sometimes associated with holothurians or hermit crabs, e.g. Petrochirus californiensis Bouvier ( Haig 1960; Gore & Abele, 1976; Parente & Hendrickx 2000; Moscoso 2012).

Remarks. Pisidia magdalenensis is one of the most abundant porcelain crabs in the tropical eastern Pacific, especially in more offshore conditions ( Gore 1982). It is also one of the most variable porcelain crabs in terms of general background colouration and colour pattern ( Figs. 78 View FIGURE 78 , 79 View FIGURE 79 ).
