Distribution. West Atlantic: USA (Florida), Mexico, Belize, Bahamas, Cuba, Puerto Rico, N, E and S Lesser Antilles, Panama (Colón), Colombia and Venezuela ( Nobili 1897; Rodríguez et al. 2005; Poupin & Lemaitre 2014; Diez & Lira 2017; Poupin 2018).

Ecology. Intertidal and shallow subtidal, known depth range: 0–1 m; under and among rocks and coral rubble, sandy areas between rocks ( Diez & Jover 2013; Poupin & Lemaitre 2014).

Remarks. Poupin & Lemaitre (2014) provided a colour photograph of a specimen from Guadeloupe (reproduced in Poupin 2018) and discussed some variation in the colour pattern of P. politus . The general colour is pale to chocolate brown with minute bluish spots; the P2–P4 dactyli are conspicuously white with a bright red transverse band; the proximal articles of the Mxp3 are dark brown, contrasting with red-orange on the propodus and yellow on the dactylus.
