Neurigona guangdongensis Wang, Yang and Grootaert View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 2–4 View FIGURES 2 – 4 )

Diagnosis. First flagellomere about as long as wide. Tarsomere I1 and tarsomere II1 each much elongated; tarsomere III1 with group of 8–10 short black v bristles at base, 3 ad bristles, 1–2 pd bristles. Abdominal segment 5 without ventral projection.

Description. MALE. Body length 4.5–4.6 mm, wing length 3.7–3.9 mm.

Head metallic green with pale gray pollen; face narrow, eyes contiguous on median portion of face. Hairs and bristles on head black; postocular bristles pale. Antenna yellow; first flagellomere about as long as wide, somewhat triangular ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 2 – 4 ); arista yellow with short basal segment. Proboscis yellow with pale hairs; palp brownish yellow, with yellow hairs and 2 black apical bristles.

Thorax brownish with gray pollen; pteropleuron with a small black spot just below wing base. Hairs and bristles on thorax black, but those on pronotum and propleuron yellow; 10 dc (first 2 pairs rather short) bristles, 11 paired acr bristles. Propleuron with 1 long yellow bristle on lower portion. Legs yellow; coxae I–III yellow; tarsus I brown, tarsomeres II2–5 and tarsomeres III2–5 brown. Hairs and bristles on legs black; coxa I with 5–6 bristles on anteroapical portion; coxa II just with several hairs; coxa III with 1 outer bristle at basal 1/3. Tibia II with 1 ad bristle at middle; hind tibia with 2 ad bristles, 3 pd bristles, 3 av bristles and row of about 10 pv bristles. Tarsomeres I1 longer than tibia I, and tarsomere II1 longer than tibia II; tarsomere I1 with 1 ad bristle at base and row of v bristles; tarsomere III1 with group of 8–10 short black v bristles at base, 3 ad bristles, 1–2 pd bristles, and row of short v bristles on apical half; tarsomeres III2–4 each with row of v bristles. Relative lengths of tibia and 5 tarsomeres of legs, LI 7.9: 8.3: 4.5: 3.5: 3.1: 1.9; LII 9.6: 13.0: 4.5: 3.1: 2.0: 1.0; LIII 15.1: 6.7: 5.7: 3.1: 1.9: 1.0.

Wing ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 2 – 4 ) hyaline; veins dark brown, M1+2 gently bent apically and convergent with R4+5; CuAx ratio 0.33. Squama yellow with brown margin, with pale hairs. Halter yellow.

Abdomen yellow with yellow pollen; terga 2–4 each with a large black midbasal spot, tergum 5 with a small blackish basal spot; hypopygium black. Abdominal segment 5 without ventral projection. Most hairs on abdomen black.

Genitalia ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 2 – 4 ). Epandrium longer than wide, basally with 2 broad lateral processes, surstylus with dorsal lobe short and broad, and with fingerlike process at dorsal corner; middle lobe long and broad, apically with 4 bristles. Cercus with wide base and acute apex, with short hairs. Hypandrium long and thick; aedeagus slender.

FEMALE. Unknown.

Type material. Holotype male, Guangdong: Nankunshan National Park, 12. V. 2004, PG. Paratype 1 male, Fujian: Wuyishan, Dazhulan, 11. V. 2004, JZ. Holotype and paratype deposited in CAU.

Distribution. Known only from Fujian and Guangdong.

Etymology. The specific epithet derives from the type locality in Guangdong.

Comments. The new species is similar to Neurigona concaviuscula Yang from Sichuan, but can be separated from the latter by the 11 paired acr bristles and the tarsomere I1 longer than tibia I. In N. concaviuscula , 17–18 irregularly paired acr bristles are present, and the tarsomere I1 is much shorter than the tibia I ( Yang, 1999).
