Identification (after Rees 1957)

Hydroids colonial unbranching. Exoskeleton thin over most colonies, terminating at hydranth base. Hydranth with a blunt conical hypostome and a slightly broader tentacular region with capitate tentacles arranged generally alternate in position. Tentacles arranged in five circles, having a nematocyst knob at their terminal end. The nematocyst knobs are spherical, smooth, and with stenotele and microbasic eurytele nematocysts.

Distribution

This constitutes a new record of the genus Hydrocoryne for the Gulf of California. In the MP, the medusa stage of Hydrocoryne miurensis Stechow, 1908 , has been recorded in Guerrero ( Bigelow 1909) .

Remarks

Distinction between species of the genus Hydrocoryne is based on the medusa stage.
