TYPE LOCALITY: France, Gard, Montpellier .

DISTRIBUTION: SE France, E and S Spain, and Portugal.

SYNONYMS: centralis , flavescens , fuscus , ibericus , pascuus, provincialis , regulus .

COMMENTS: Subgenus Terricola , duodecimcostatus species group sensu Chaline et al. (1988) . Craniometric analyses contrasting this species with A4, gerbei and A4, lusitanicus documented by Spitz (1978). Taxonomy and biology reviewed by Niethammer (1982Î); chromosomal data summarized by Zima and Krâl (1984 «); meiotic behavior of sex chromosomes reported by Carnero et al. (1991).
