TYPE SPECIES: Deomys furrugineus Thomas, 1888 .

COMMENTS: Although currently included in Dendromurinae , the morphological traits of Deomys do not fit well in that group ( Rosevear, 1969), and influenced Ellerman (1941) to erect the Deomyinae to contain the genus (see the discussion in Carleton and Musser, 1984).
