TYPE LOCALITY: Japan, Honshu, Hyogo Prefecture, Kobe .

DISTRIBUTION: Recorded from the Japanese islands of Dogo, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu.

SYNONYMS: kageus, okiensis.

COMMENTS: Revised by Aimi (1980) as a species of Eothenomys ; evidence for including kageus was presented by Kaneko (1985) and Ando et al. (1988). Intraspecific chromosomal variation was documented by Ando et al. (1991).
