TYPE SPECIES: Rhombomys pallidus Wagner, 1841 View in CoL (= Meriones opimus Lichtenstein, 1823 ).

COMMENTS: Reviewed by Corbet (1978c). The tribe Rhombomyini contains this genus along with Sekeetamys , Meriones , Brachiones , and Psammomys ( Pavlinov et al., 1990) .
