TYPE LOCALITY: Malaysia, Sabah (N Borneo), Gunung Kinabalu ("from a high level") .
DISTRIBUTION: Known only from two mountains in Sabah, N Borneo (from 3500 to 11,000 ft on Gunung Kinabalu, and also on Gunung Trus Madi).
SYNONYMS: kinabaluensis.
COMMENTS: The name alticola was once applied to populations from lower elevations on Gunung Kinabalu, the Malay Peninsula, and Sumatra ( Chasen, 1940), but was shown to represent a distinct species endemic to mountains of Sabah ( Medway, 1964, 1977).
