TYPE LOCALITY: China, Heilongjiang Prov. (Manchuria), Khingan Mtns, 3400 ft .
DISTRIBUTION: NE China (valleys of Great Khiaghau in Kirin Province) and Russia (E Transbaikalia between Amur and S Ussuri Territory); limits unknown.
COMMENTS: The most primitive member of the monophyletic myospalax species-group, which includes species represented by modern specimens as well as Pliocene and Pleistocene fossils ( Lawrence, 1991).
