TYPE LOCALITY: Argentina, Tierra del Fuego Prov., Bahia Monteith, Straits of Magellan .

DISTRIBUTION: Southernmost Chile and Argentina.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Abrothrix . Relegated to a subspecies of A. longipilis by Mann (1978) but others have affirmed its specific status ( Osgood, 1943; Yanez et al., 1978). Earlier associated with Microxus (e.g., Gyldenstolpe, 1932) but later allocated to subgenus Abrothrix of Akodon ( Osgood, 1943; Reig, 1987).
