TYPE LOCALITY: Argentina, Tucuman Prov., San Pablo, Villa Nouges, 1200 m .
DISTRIBUTION: E Andean foothills from SC Bolivia to NW Argentina.
SYNONYMS: glaucinus, tartareus.
COMMENTS: Subgenus Akodon , varius group. Placed as a subspecies of A. varius (Cabrera, 1961; Thomas, 1926b); returned to species rank by Myers (1989), who recognized glaucinus and tartareus as subspecies. Karyology and morphometries reviewed, as A. varius , by Barquez et al. (1980).
