TYPE LOCALITY: Colombia, Antioquia Dept., 8 km E Medellin, Santa Elena, 9000 ft .

DISTRIBUTION: NC Colombia.

COMMENTS: Distinctive species of uncertain affinities, variously associated with O. balneator or Melanomys ( Gyldenstolpe, 1932) , with Nectomys ( Ellerman, 1941) , or with subgenus Oryzomys (Cabrera, 1961) . Such a diversity of opinion begs renewed study.
