TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Sonora, San Esteban Island, 28°34'N, 113°21 'W GoogleMaps .

DISTRIBUTION: Known only from Isla San Esteban.

COMMENTS: Lawlor (19716) demonstrated the 6oy/ii-like traits of P. stephani , which was previously classified in the subgenus Haplomylomys (Hooper, 19686). Electrophoretic investigations support its specific status ( Avise et al., 1974a, b). P. boylii species group.
