TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Michoacan, 10 km W Apatzingan, 1040 ft .
DISTRIBUTION: Coastal lowlands of Jalisco and Colima, along Rio Balsas to interior Michocan and northernmost Guerrero, Mexico.
SYNONYMS: chrysopus .
COMMENTS: Placed with P. melanophrys group by Hooper (1968b), an association supported by electrophoretic data ( Schmidly et al., 1985).
