TYPE LOCALITY: Peru, Piura Dept., Piura .

DISTRIBUTION: Sechura Desert of NW Peru.

COMMENTS: Type species of Paralomys , a genus named by Thomas (1926a); included within Phyllotis by Osgood (1947), a position supported by its derived karyotype ( Pearson and Patton, 1976). The relationship of gerbillus to other Phyllotis deserves reconsideration.
