TYPE LOCALITY: Costa Rica, Alajuela Prov., canyons above Villa Quesada, 5000 ft .

DISTRIBUTION: Allopatric populations in highlands of NC Nicaragua (see Jones and Genoways, 1970) and C Costa Rica.

SYNONYMS: nicaraguae .

COMMENTS: Subgenus Aporodon , mexicanus species group. See Jones and Baldassarre (1982, Mammalian Species, 192).
