TYPE LOCALITY: Panama, Darien Prov., Santa Cruz de Cana, upper Rio Tuyra, 2000 ft .

DISTRIBUTION: E Panama, including Azuero Peninsula, and perhaps adjacent Colombia.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Aporodon , mexicanus species group. Hooper (1952) viewed R. darienensis as closely related to R. gracilis .
