TYPE LOCALITY: Brazil, Minas Gerais, Rio das Velhas, Lagoa Santa .
DISTRIBUTION: C and E Brazil, and perhaps Amazonian regions of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
SYNONYMS: cearanus, emiliae , macrurus , maculipes, yuruanus.
COMMENTS: Degree of differentiation from the Andean forms latimanus and venezuelae unresolved; occurs in close proximity to a smaller species here listed as R. nitela . Distributional limits unclear. Zanchin et al. (1992a) considered cearanus as a species separate from R. mastacalis .
