TYPE LOCALITY: Ecuador, Chimborazo Prov., Mt. Chimborazo, Urbina, 11,400 ft .

DISTRIBUTION: Known only from high Andes in Azuay and Chimborazo provinces, Ecuador.

COMMENTS: Lumped under S. hispidus by Cabrera (1961) following the footnoted opinion of Hershkovitz (1955a); reinstated as a species by Voss (1992).
