Description

Light brown colony spreading in one plane with swollen tipped branches arising at approximately right angles from it. Thick coenenchyme covered by polyps that are slightly verruciform. Calyx covers the retracted anthocodium. Verruca covered by spicules of true Echinogorgia type, that is, exterior portion foliaceous comprising several leaves with dentate margins and a basal portion for attachment. These sclerites are of 0.5 mm x 0.5 mm. Axis yellow.

Type locality

Hirudo Sound, Japan.

Distribution

Japan, Hong Kong.

Remarks

Two specimens were collected from Steep Island Cave. Sizes were 80 mm × 78 mm and 45 mm × 30 mm. This species is a new record for Hong Kong.
