Rhyacophila nigrocephala Iwata 1927 , 216, pl. 6, larva, Japan (Honshu); Kuhara & Ito 2017, 14, 16, Japan (Yakushima); Hattori 2005, 424, 433, male, female, habitat.

Specimens examined. Yakushima Island: 6 males, 5 females, Miyanoura-gawa , Yukawa-bashi, 9.v.2006, TI , L (SPMN-IS); 2 females, Miyanoura , Kue-gawa, Biwatsubo-bashi, 8.v.2006, TI , L ( SPMN-IS); 1 female, Yoshidagawa , Yoshida-bashi, 40 m, 25.ix.2003, N. Kuhara (N. Kuhara) .

Remarks. This species belongs to the R. nigrocephala Species Group. Adults of this species were collected beside streams with stony bottom at 20 to 70 m a.s.l., but never from higher elevation sites ( Fig. 6F ).

Distribution. Japan (Yakushima, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Okino-shima).

Japanese name. Munaguro-nagare-tobikera.
