comb. nov.

Diuncus mucronatulus ( Eggers 1930) comb. n.

Previous genus: Xyleborus

Diagnosis: Small species, less robust than most Diuncus spp. Four prominent spines, positioned rather lower on the declivital slope, farther apart. Upper declivital sides bulging a little, which, augmented by the elytral teeth, make the declivity slightly concave transversally. No setae on elytra.

Discussion. Described by Eggers (1930) as different from X. mucronatus by being more slender. The species appears very similar to Diuncus conidens , except for the lack of swelling at the apex of first interstriae (caused by a shallow impression across interstriae 2 and 3). Holotype not available to confirm synonymy of the two species.

Several other examined specimens of X. mucronatulus from BMNH identified by Browne are entirely different and their identity is unclear (the specimens are conspicuously prolonged, with very steep declivity).

Biology: Maiti and Saha (2004) report its occurrence with Xylosandrus mesuae .

Examined material: India, Bengal (2, BMNH).
