TYPE SPECIES. — Iouea moreti Lévi F Lévi, 1988 by monotypy.

DEFINITION. — Polymorphic sponges (cylindrical to cup/vase-shaped) with two to three types of spirasters (short blunt rays and different size classes of short pointed rays) as microscleres and smooth ectosomal dichotriaenes. Desmas are dicranoclones with two to four clones (definition emended here from Pisera F Lévi 2002b).
