TYPE SPECIES. — Scleritoderma flabelliforme Sollas, 1888 by subsequent designation (Pisera F Lévi 2 002a).

DEFINITION. — Sponges with spinose rhizoclone desmas and ectosomal acanthostrongyles/rhabds forming a dense tangential layer on the surface; microscleres are sigmaspires (Pisera F Lévi 2002a).
