Notes. Beamer (1932i) apparently unknowingly based his description of this species on a male with the tip of the aedeagus broken off (holotype in KU) and thus lacking the pair of long ventromedially curved apical processes characteristic of the species. The identity of the type specimen is nonetheless clear because of the characteristic red markings on the forewing and the unusual structure of the pygofer, on which both the dorsal and ventral appendage are very short and arise near the apex. This structure is the same as that found in two taxa described subsequently by Beamer: N. arida   and N. davisi   . Although the male genitalia of these taxa appear to be identical, specimens of N. balli   are distinguishable by their slightly smaller size and by the conspicuous red pigment of the forewing. Specimens of N. davisi   lack reddish pigment and are more heavily marked with brown.

Distribution. Mexico: Durango. USA: Arizona, Texas.
