Key to species of Carchesiopygus View in CoL (females)

1 Lower part of frons below level of antennal insertions strongly, broadly impressed, with a deeper concavity on each side; middle and upper part of frons longitudinally impressed, the impression narrowing toward the level of the antennal insertions, where the sides of the impression are raised and convex (Fig. 8). Pronotum with a single large mycangial pore on one side, and a small one on the other at the apex of the median line, a small patch of very fine pores behind these. Large species, 9–10 mm long............................................................................... impariporus (Beeson) View in CoL

– Frons almost flat and strongly punctured below level of antennal insertions, the upper part broadly concave, the impression narrowing ventrally, smooth, shining and unpunctured medially. Pronotum with one to four larger pores on each side anterior to a few smaller pores. Smaller species, up to 8 mm long...................................................... 2

2 Pronotum with a pair of very large mycangial pores at the anterior end of the median line, a few very small pores behind them (Figs 2, 7).......................................................................................... 3

– Pronotum without very large mycangial pores, although one to four pores on each side anteriorly are larger than the others, the pores decrease in size posteriorly (Fig. 4).................................................. assamensis (Beeson) View in CoL

3 Frons dull, weakly, broadly impressed, finely strigose on upper half, with a median and branched lateral carinulae on lower half, impunctate. Median line on pronotum longer, the large mycangial pores separated from it by about their own diameter, the punctures anterior to the pores very fine, the surface finely coriaceous (Fig. 7)......................... oculatus Beeson View in CoL

– Frons shining, more deeply impressed, the impression narrowing towards the epistoma, the middle impunctate, the remainder punctate, the punctures becoming coarser towards the sides and epistoma. Median line on pronotum short, the large mycangial pores placed close to its anterior end, the punctures anterior to the mycangial pores very shallow and irregular, the surface with a corroded appearance (Fig. 2)......................................................... … wollastoni (Chapuis) View in CoL
