Description: —Annual, small or robust monoecious herbs, 50–120 cm high. Stem erect or ascending, glabrous. Leaves deltoid-ovate, lanceolate or ovate-oblong to oval (9–17 × 5–9 cm), without stipule, spirally arranged, apex sub-acute often slightly notched, with a mucro. Flowers unisexual, arranged in small axillary glomerules and the terminal compound inflorescence of agglomerated cymes, male and female flowers intermixed; bracts and bracteoles broadly ovate-spathulate to ovate-lanceolate, apically awned or acute, 1.5–2.0 mm long; tepals 3, ovate-spathulate to ovate-lanceolate, awned or acute, membranous, 3.5–5.0 mm long; stamens 3, 4.5–5.0 mm long; carpels 3, 2.5–3.0 mm long, style short and thick, ovary ovoid, stigmas 3, filiform, with a short beak present in the lower part; fruit circumscissile, ovoid, 1.5–2.0 mm long; seed blackish-brown, shiny, compressed, 1.2–1.5 mm in diameter.
