Gymnophthalmus sp.

Distribution: A single specimen from the northern Orinoquia, in Lejanías de Juriepe, department of Arauca.

Remarks: We consider this individual is different from the other species we examined. Although it is from the same locality of a Gymnophthalmus leucomystax we included, this individual presents a very melanistic coloration both dorsally and ventrally, does not have an upper white lip, and the dorsolateral stripes disappear before the midbody. For this reason and following Vanzolini & Carvalho (1991) this individual is not in agreement with the former species. We also discarded G. cryptus given its scale counts, and G. speciosus group for its darkened tail. This individual has a particular resemblance in coloration and scutellation with G. underwoodi , only differing in the temporal formula which is one of the diagnostic traits suggested by Recoder et al. (2018). It is also possible this individual may be an aberrant coloration or non-described variation of one of those species, but further confirmation is needed.
